The Maine State Police tactical squad has responded to reports of a armed man in the Colby Circle area of downtown Waterville. Police are potentially engaged in an armed standoff as the incident has occurred for over two hours. Multiple police agencies have responded and on scene Echo reporters have confirmed that Waterville Police crisis negotiator, Sergeant. Jennifer Weaver, is on scene.

The area blocked off is nearby Jokas Discount Beverage, a liquor store popular among students. The Colby Circle area is not located on campus; however, is in the area of the old Colby campus. The Mid-Maine homeless shelter, Waterville Police Station, a Dunkin Donuts, and the District Court House are located near the scene. Nearby businesses have been evacuated by police. K9 units and SWAT teams conducted a preliminary investigation and sweep of the area shortly after 8pm.

The Morning Sentinel reported that the focus of attention is a vehicle in the parking lot of the Waterville Police station.
